Nigerian Referees Snubbed As CAF Names Officials For 2023 AFCON


Once again, referees from Nigeria have been snubbed as Confederation of African Football (CAF) release the list of officials for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast in 2024.

This was confirmed after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) published a list of officials for the tournament on their website.

A total of 32 center referees, 33 assistant referees, and 2 VAR officials were listed by CAF for the preparation course ahead of the showpiece.

No Nigerian referee has been listed to take charge at AFCON in the last 13 years.

In other news, The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has celebrated Victor Osimhen after the forward netted a hat-trick in Nigeria’s 6-0 rout of Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday.

Osimhen opened scoring for the Super Eagles in the encounter and netted twice in the second half.

The 24-year-old finished the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier as the leading marksman with 10 goals.

CAF lauded Osimhen in a post on their X handle.

“Spoiler: Yes he does..THREE TIMES,” CAF posted.

The African football governing body wrote on their website: “He just can’t stop scoring.

“Osimhen’s ruthlessness in front of goal proved the difference as Nigeria coasted to victory.”
