Johan Bakayoko Liverpool’s Top Target

Liverpool are still interested in sealing a deal for PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko before the transfer deadline, according to reports.

The 20-year-old had a breakthrough season for PSV last term, making 23 appearances in the Eredivisie and contributing five goals and five assists.

And there are rumours that his good performances last term have attracted interest from Jurgen Klopp with Liverpool chasing his signature along with a number of other clubs.

Football Insider claims that fellow Premier League sides Everton, Crystal Palace and Burnley are in the race to sign Bakayoko with Liverpool now ‘pushing’ for his signature.

Palace have ‘recently entered the race’, Liverpool and Everton ‘continue to monitor the winger’s situation’, while Burnley ‘have seen two bids rejected for his services this summer’.

The Clarets’ last offer was worth £17.2m with the report adding that ‘a potential move for the youngster could depend on PSV qualifying for the Champions League group stage’.

Former Dutch footballer Wim Kieft has described reports that Liverpool are interested in Bakayoko as “total madness”.

“I was also so surprised by the news that Liverpool were interested in Bakayoko,” Kieft told Voetbal Primeur.

“That’s madness, isn’t it? I really think that’s total madness. I don’t believe all those reports. His agents are just putting such reports into the world.”

Reports emerged yesterday that Joe Gomez is now ‘very high’ on Al-Ittihad’s shortlist as they look to add a new centre-back to their squad before their window shuts in September.

It comes after claims the Saudi Arabian side could make a huge offer for Liverpool forward Mo Salah with claims the Egyptian could be offered as much as £191m a year for three seasons.

And now Fabrizio Romano has an update on the Liverpool duo’s situation, he wrote in his Caught Offside column: “There’s also more important news from Saudi Arabia, because Al Ittihad, the club who wanted Mohamed Salah, have again approached Liverpool, this time for Joe Gomez.

“They want the player, they consider him a perfect option because he can play different positions in defence.

“But the message from Liverpool is that they don’t want to sell important players in the final days of the transfer window. They don’t want to lose players like Salah or Gomez with just 3-4 days left of the transfer window.

“Let’s see what happens and if Al Ittihad will submit an official proposal, they have an interest for sure, but Liverpool have been very clear about not wanting to sell important players.”
