2022Commonwealth Games: World Record Holder Tobi Amusan Race To 100m Hurdles Final


The world’s 100m hurdles record holder, Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has qualified for the final of 100m hurdles at the on-going commonwealth games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Amusan raced to a massive 12.40s to dominate Round 1 Heat 3 to qualify for Sunday’s final. The new world champion has the chance to defend her Commonwealth Games title, which she won in Gold Coast Australia in 2018.

She will face stiff competition from fellow finalists from other countries, especially Jamaican duo Danielle Williams, Megan Tapper, England’s Cindy Sembre, Michelle Jenneke of Australia, and Devynne Charlton of Bahamas.

It was the 25-year-old’s first race since her record-breaking appearance at the world championship held in Oregon, United States, last month. Amusan began the 2022 season in splendid form, winning the 2022 Diamond League event in Paris, where she went on to set an African record by 0.01s with a time of 12.41s.

She followed that up with another fine outing, when she won the gold medal in the 100mh at the 2022 African Championships in Mauritius, defending her title successfully with a time of 12.57s. She was also part of the team that won gold at the 4×100m event at the same competition.
